A good junk removal company in Houston will take almost anything: furniture, appliances, mattresses, electronics, construction debris, yard waste, whole garages. But there’s a short list of things no legitimate hauler can put on the truck, and knowing it before you book saves everyone a wasted trip. Here’s what we can’t take, why, and exactly where in Houston to bring it instead.

E-waste and electronics sorted for recycling in Houston

Household Hazardous Waste

Paint, stains, solvents, pool chemicals, pesticides, fertilizer, motor oil, antifreeze, and cleaning products are classed as household hazardous waste. Haulers can’t legally transport them mixed with general junk, and landfills won’t accept them.

Where it goes: The City of Houston runs a free Environmental Service Center for residents. Check current hours and accepted items on the Solid Waste Management site before you go. Latex paint can be dried out with cat litter and thrown away with regular trash once solid.

Propane Tanks, Fuel and Gas Cylinders

Grill propane tanks, camp fuel, gasoline and welding cylinders can rupture or ignite in a truck bed. We’ll set them aside for you but can’t load them.

Where it goes: Most hardware stores and propane exchanges accept empty grill tanks. The city’s household hazardous waste program takes fuel.

Asbestos and Lead Materials

Older Houston homes (pre-1980) often have asbestos in floor tile, pipe wrap, popcorn ceilings and siding. Disturbing it releases fibers, and disposal requires licensed abatement. No junk hauler should touch suspected asbestos.

Where it goes: A licensed asbestos abatement contractor tests, removes and disposes of it. Once the material is professionally bagged and cleared, we can haul the rest of your remodel debris.

Medical and Biohazard Waste

Sharps, medications, and anything contaminated with bodily fluids need specialized disposal. Standard hoarder and estate cleanouts are fine; true biohazard scenes need a remediation company, and we’ll tell you honestly when that’s the case.

Where it goes: Pharmacies and police stations across Houston host medication take-back bins. Sharps go in an approved container to a drop-off site.

Wet Concrete, Liquids and Anything Still Leaking

Trucks can’t carry loose liquids. A leaking water heater, a drum of unknown fluid, or a bucket of wet concrete has to be drained, cured or sealed first. Once it’s dry or empty, it’s ordinary junk and we’ll take it.

Vehicles and Large Motorized Equipment

Cars, boats, RVs and riding mowers with fuel in them need a tow or a specialized buyer. Drained lawn equipment and small engines are fine.

Everything Else? We Take It

That’s the whole list. Everything else in a Houston home, yard or business is fair game for our junk removal service: furniture, mattresses, appliances (including freon units), TVs and electronics, hot tubs, sheds, fences, construction debris, yard waste and full cleanouts. Not sure about an item? Text a photo to (832) 430-6947 and we’ll answer in minutes. If we can’t haul it, we’ll point you to the right drop-off for free.

Tips Before Your Pickup

Frequently Asked Questions

Will junk removal take paint cans?

Empty, dried cans, yes. Cans with liquid paint go to the city’s hazardous waste drop-off, or dry them out first.

Do you take refrigerators?

Yes. Freon appliances are one of our most common pickups; a small handling fee covers proper refrigerant recovery. See appliance removal.

Do you take TVs and computers?

Yes. Electronics go to certified recyclers. See e-waste recycling.

What about tires?

We take a few tires with a regular load for a small per-tire fee.
